Causes of Forehead Wrinkles

Forehead wrinkles can develop in two ways. One cause of forehead wrinkles is the effect of gravity on our aging skin. As we age, our skin loses it elasticity and begins to sag and crease.

A forehead wrinkle is sometimes referred to as a “worry line.” This suggestive name hints at the way most forehead wrinkles are formed. Dynamic furrows or creases in the skin are the result of the many facial muscle movements we make every second of the day. We use those forehead furrows to express surprise or concern. When our skin is young and elastic, it springs back quickly from these muscle movements. However, as we age, the skin takes longer and longer to respond. Eventually, these dynamic forehead wrinkles become static forehead wrinkles and remain visible even when we are not using the muscles that originally caused them.

The process that creates a forehead wrinkle is the same for crow’s feet. What once started as smile or laugh lines around the eyes eventually becomes static crow’s feet, wrinkles that have lost their ability to communicate humour and now only reveal our skin’s loss of elasticity.
