Restylane Side Effects and Safety

After over 10 million treatments worldwide, Restylane® has proven to be a very safe product. The major ingredient, hyaluronic acid, is very similar to the hyaluronic acid naturally formed by the body and it is extremely well tolerated in most cases.

Restylane Side Effects

As with any type of injection, there is the possibility of experiencing:

  • Slight redness
  • Swelling
  • Mild pain or tenderness
  • Itching and/or bruising
  • Red or swollen bumps (rare)

These side effects are temporary and generally disappear after a few days. You should avoid exposure of any of the treated areas to intense heat or extreme cold until any initial reaction has gone away.

Safety

You should not have a Restylane® treatment if you:

  • Have a hypersensitivity to local anesthetics of the amide type, such as lidocaine
  • Are pregnant
  • Are breastfeeding
  • Are under 18 years of age
  • Have skin sores, pimples, rashes, hives or an infection at the intended injection site

Avoid exposure of the treated area to intense heat (such as solarium and sunbathing) or extreme cold until any initial swelling and redness have resolved.
